Context + Google Drive
Transform scattered Google Drive documents into connected enterprise knowledge -- every Doc, Sheet, and Slide linked to the conversations and decisions that shaped it.
OVERVIEW
Enterprise teams accumulate thousands of documents in Google Drive -- product requirements in Docs, financial models in Sheets, executive presentations in Slides, signed contracts as PDFs. These documents contain critical institutional knowledge, but Drive's native search only finds documents by keyword. It cannot answer questions like "what decisions led to this architecture?" or "which teams are working on similar problems?"
Context connects your Google Drive to the rest of your enterprise toolchain, extracting full-text content from every supported file type and linking documents to related Slack conversations, Jira tickets, Notion pages, and email threads. When a sales engineer searches for competitive intelligence, they find the battlecard in Drive, the Slack channel where the product team discussed positioning, the CRM notes from recent deals, and the Notion page tracking feature parity -- all connected through Context's knowledge graph.
Deployed entirely on your infrastructure, Context processes your Google Drive content without sending it to any third-party cloud. Organizations with strict data governance requirements -- legal firms handling privileged documents, financial institutions managing regulated data, government agencies subject to sovereignty mandates -- can unify their Drive knowledge while maintaining full compliance.
KEY CAPABILITIES
Key Capabilities
- 01Full-text extraction from Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and other supported file types with preservation of document structure, headings, tables, and formatting context.
- 02Shared drive and team drive support with permission-aware indexing that respects Google Workspace organizational unit policies, drive membership, and file-level sharing settings.
- 03Comment and suggestion extraction that captures collaborative context -- who reviewed the document, what feedback was given, and which suggestions were accepted or rejected.
- 04Version history awareness that tracks document evolution over time, enabling Context to surface how a specification or policy changed and who drove those changes.
- 05Folder structure and organizational hierarchy preservation so search results reflect the logical grouping and context of documents within your team drives.
- 06Attachment and embedded content processing that follows links between Drive documents, extracting content from referenced files to build complete knowledge chains.
USE CASES
Use Cases
RFP Knowledge Mining
Enterprise sales teams respond to dozens of RFPs each quarter, often recreating answers that exist in previous proposals scattered across Drive. Context indexes past RFP responses, links them to the deal outcomes tracked in your CRM, and surfaces the most relevant answers when a new RFP arrives. Sales engineers find proven responses in seconds instead of hours, complete with context about which proposals won, which technical approaches resonated with evaluators, and how requirements have evolved across similar deals.
Cross-Team Document Discovery
In large organizations, teams maintain separate shared drives with limited visibility into what other departments have documented. The security team writes threat models that the infrastructure team has never seen. The legal team maintains contract templates that sales re-creates from scratch. Context surfaces relevant documents across shared drive boundaries based on project context, automatically connecting related documents from different teams and flagging duplicated effort before it becomes wasted work.
Regulatory Compliance Evidence Collection
Compliance teams spend weeks gathering evidence for audits, manually locating policies in Drive, matching them to control implementations in Jira, and tracing approval chains through email threads. Context automates this evidence chain -- linking compliance policies in Drive to the Jira tickets where controls were implemented, the Slack discussions where exceptions were approved, and the email threads with auditor correspondence. What previously required days of manual assembly becomes a single search query.
Executive Decision Intelligence
Strategic decisions documented in executive presentations, board decks, and planning documents in Drive become disconnected from the execution that follows. Context links the quarterly planning Slides to the OKR documents in Notion, the implementation epics in Jira, and the status updates in Slack -- providing leadership with a continuous thread from strategy to execution. When reviewing past decisions, executives see not just what was decided but how it was implemented and what outcomes resulted.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Context require Google Workspace admin access?
Context uses a service account with domain-wide delegation to access shared drives, which requires Google Workspace admin approval during initial setup. However, the service account is scoped to read-only access on the specific drives and folders you designate. Context does not require super admin privileges and cannot modify, delete, or share your documents.
Which Google Drive file types does Context support?
Context extracts full-text content from Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, plain text files, and common office formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX). For Sheets, Context extracts cell values, formulas, and named ranges. For Slides, Context captures text content, speaker notes, and embedded links. Binary files like images and videos are cataloged by metadata but not content-indexed.
How does Context handle shared drive permissions?
Context respects your existing Google Workspace permission model. Only documents the service account has been granted access to are indexed. Search results are filtered by the querying user's Drive permissions -- users never see documents they cannot access in Google Drive. Context integrates with your identity provider to map Google Workspace identities to enterprise SSO identities.
Can Context index personal My Drive content?
Context is designed for enterprise shared knowledge and indexes shared drives and designated folders by default. Personal My Drive content is not indexed unless a user explicitly shares specific folders with the Context service account. This design ensures employee privacy while capturing organizational knowledge.
Does Context support on-premise deployment for Google Drive integration?
Yes. Context deploys entirely on your infrastructure -- on-premise servers, private cloud VPC, or hybrid environments. The only external connection required is API access to Google Drive servers for content retrieval. All extracted content is processed and stored within your network. No data is sent to Context servers or any third party.
How does Context handle large Drive environments with millions of files?
Context is architected for enterprise scale. Initial indexing runs in parallel across multiple worker processes, and incremental sync uses the Google Drive Changes API to process only modified files. Organizations with millions of files typically complete initial indexing within a day, with subsequent sync cycles completing in minutes. Context supports configuring indexing priorities by drive or folder to surface high-value content first.
SETUP OVERVIEW
Setup Overview
Deploy Context on your infrastructure using Helm or Docker Compose. Configure a Google Workspace service account with read-only access to the shared drives and folders you want indexed -- Context provides a step-by-step admin guide for domain-wide delegation setup. Provide the service account credentials through the Context admin dashboard or environment configuration. Initial indexing begins automatically and processes documents in parallel -- most organizations complete initial sync within hours. No desktop agents, browser extensions, or end-user configuration is required.
